REASON: TO VERIFY THE LOAD CAPACITY USING WEDGE-IT

LABORATORY NUMBER: 11609 RAMTECH LABORTATORIES INC.

TEST:

A series of comparative flexural strength tests have been conducted on the submitted WEDGE-IT tapered foam boards using Eagle Lite Tile flat shake roof tiles. The test was conducted in accordance with ICBO, ES Inc. AC 07 flexural strength test. The first flexural strength series (control) was conducted without any tapered foam board. The second series was conducted with 1-5/8 inch WEDGE-IT tapered foam board under the tile. The third series was conducted with 1-9/16 inch WEDGE-IT tapered foam board under the tile. All tiles used in the test program were identified as being manufactured with the same lot number and same manufacturer. Each of the three test series was conducted using a 4’ x 8’ test deck with the tiles being installed in a standard installation procedure with a 3” head lap. The loads were applied through a flat 2” x 4” positioned at the center of the test span as shown in UBC Standard 15-5.

FLEXURAL STRENGTH WITHOUT WEDGE-IT TAPERED FOAM BOARD (CONTROL)

Results: The average breaking load 250 pounds with no single load less than 225 pounds.

FLEXURAL STRENGTH WITH 1-9/16” WEDGE-IT TAPERED FOAM BOARD UNDERTILE

Results:  The average breaking load 575 pounds with no single load less than 510 pounds.

CONCLUSIONS:

Comment: The test data shows that the use of the WEDGE-IT foam boards Installed below the concrete tiles, more than double the flexural bearing loads. This fact should translate to greatly improved walkability on any tile roofing system using the WEDGE-IT Installation system.
